Residential vs. Commercial Holiday Lighting: What Changes
5 min read
How commercial holiday lighting projects differ from residential ones in scope, scheduling, and planning.
Scale is only part of it
The obvious difference is size. The less obvious differences — scheduling windows, access rules, power capacity, and approval chains — usually have a bigger effect on how a project runs.
Scheduling
Residential work usually happens during normal daytime hours. Commercial work often has to fit around business hours, deliveries, and customer traffic, which can push installation to early mornings or after closing.
Design intent
A home display is personal. A commercial display is usually brand-facing: it should look intentional from the parking lot and photograph well for social media. That tends to mean cleaner lines and more consistent color.
Planning lead time
- • Residential: a few weeks of lead time is often enough
- • Commercial: budget approval and scheduling can take a month or more
- • HOA and managed properties: board review adds time on top of that
